The pool area is thoroughly covered with PVC sheeting and light ply. The concrete pool surface is next cleaned through high-pressure washing and hydrochloric acid to eliminate residue, stains, and surface rubble.
All fixtures are eliminated, and if required, the surrounding surface is ground back to accept the overall thickness (approx. 12mm) of the prep coat and PebbleTec finish.
A specialized bonding coat is carefully applied over the entire surface using professional-grade tools and techniques to ensure consistent coverage. This critical layer enhances adhesion between the pool shell and the new PebbleTec finish, while also balancing the curing time between the existing concrete structure and the PebbleTec product. The bonding layer typically requires up to three full days to cure, depending on weather conditions, humidity levels, and surface porosity.
Pebble and cement are blended alongside the pool and skillfully trowelled onto the pool areas. Application is usually done in two phases:
Walls: Around 3 days
Floor: Around 2 days
After hardening, the whole surface is acid-washed to reveal the shiny pebble aggregate to produce the characteristic PebbleTec appearance.
Following acid washing, plumbing and electrical terminations (done by others) can be done. The pool must then be filled in 24 hours to finish the curing process.
Once filled, the pool should undergo water balancing and filtration system checks. Regular brushing of the new surface during the first few weeks helps ensure an even finish and optimal durability.
